Monday Box Office Report : Anurag Kashyap Rules The Box Office With “Udta Punjab” and “Raman Raghav 2.0”

Some time a little struggle can go a long way. The fight between CBFC chief Pahaj Nihlani and Anurag Kashyap turned out to be fruitful which also decided the fate of the “Udta Punjab” at the box office, both in Domestic and Overseas. Well, it turns out that Anurag Kashyap not only won the battle by releasing the film with only single cut ( rather than 89 cuts) as decided but also was successful in making money from both domestic and Overseas Box office.

“Udta Punjab” declined subsequently in its second weekend (probably by 90%) but since the controversial drama already minted money in its first week, the impact was less in the second weekend. Though second Friday was bad, “Udta Punjab” stabilized on Saturday and grew little bit on Sunday. On second Monday, “Udta Punjab” fell by 50% as compared to its second Friday which is reasonable. The total collection of the drug drama is (Fri 1.40 cr, Sat 2.10 cr, Sun 2.35 cr, Mon 75 lacs) Rs 55.10 crores (The budget is Rs 48 crores). On the other hand, overseas total for “Udta Punjab” is $2,037,573 [Rs 13.85 cr].

On the other hand, Anurag Kashyap’s second film “Raman Raghav 2.0” (which he directed as well) did not make much impact at the box office. The theme of the film is pretty dark and the “A” certificate limited the number of the audience. The good news is that the budget of “Raman Raghav 2.0” is pretty economical which comes around Rs 7 crores and if the film crosses 7 crores, it can be called profitable. But looking at the total collections of Rs (Fri 1.10 cr, Sat 1.40 cr, Sun 1.48 cr, Mon 56 lacs) Rs 4.54 crores, it is still tentative. On top of it, “Raman Raghav 2.0” might not get the satellite rights as well due to the brutal content of the film.
